PROMAEL and investor group Ceiba drive sustainability at a Meliá Caribbean hotel through innovative energy solutions
980 kWp photovoltaic microgrid, 1 MWh storage, and intelligent energy management at a newly opened Meliá Caribbean hotel, delivered in four months.

Promael, as part of its development of innovative solutions in the renewable energy market, has completed a project of major significance in the Caribbean for a newly opened Meliá chain hotel. A new benchmark in its international expansion, developed in partnership with investor group Ceiba.
The project was delivered within four months. Promael supplied all materials, installed the photovoltaic plant with its string inverters, and carried out the assembly, positioning, and connection of the energy management container, including functional testing and the adjustments required for correct synchronisation of all energy sources at the property.
Promael is proud to bring this type of solution to market, once again with full client satisfaction.
Delivering innovative solutions in the renewables market
Given the complexity of the local electricity supply, and thanks to the trust placed in us by investor group Ceiba and our client Toscuba, we were commissioned to develop and implement a project to improve supply quality and transform the hotel into a sustainable, intelligent property, supported by the latest advances in energy systems.
The starting conditions for the design included supply from the electricity grid, two 640 kVA generator sets operating in parallel for use during grid outages, and an anticipated consumption of between 1,000 and 1,200 kVA at full occupancy.

Optimal management and quality power supply
Following the challenge set by our client and a thorough assessment of the situation, including site surveys and on-site analysis, Promael proposed an innovative solution within the renewable energy and energy storage market.
The project consisted of implementing a microgrid with 980 kWp of photovoltaic panels distributed across the hotel rooftops, with future expansion capacity up to 1.1 MW. String inverters rated at 110 kW were installed, connected to a container housing two 800 kVA hybrid inverters - 1.6 MW total - and a 1 MWh lithium-ion battery backup, along with the supply of the property's electrical switchboards.
All energy sources connect to the container, which performs optimal management of available power and delivers quality energy to the hotel's loads.
Environmental responsibility in tourism
Sustainability in tourism is one of the sector's greatest challenges. The Meliá chain operates under a responsible management model that integrates environmental commitments into the business and pursues continuous improvement, advancing alongside strategic partners such as Promael who share that same vision.
Today, the microgrid operates exceptionally well, self-managing the energy supply with zero injection to the grid - in compliance with the destination country's regulations - and providing stable, self-sufficient energy with a significant reduction in congestion on the local electricity grid.
Promael will continue working on the implementation of projects of all kinds to bring solutions to market that promote a more sustainable future.
